The NCE entrance plaza is designed to extend the teachings of the National Capital Exhibition out into the forecourt where the focus is on highlighting the Water Burley Griffin Plan and telling the story of Burley Griffin and his wife Marion Mahoney’s original landscape design for Canberra.

 

Extending the geometry of the exhibition building, the landscape radiates out into the forecourt. Extension lines cut through the open plaza in a series of low level garden beds with single colour planting exhibiting Marion Mahoney’s scheme of ‘painting’ each of the hills of Canberra with single colour native vegetation assemblages.
